The title of artist does not agree with José Treviño since he possesses none of the ways of living that are characteristic of the sublime genius, of the inexpressible creator, of the contemplation of things with disregard to their use. José Treviño is a worker capable of concretely symbolizing his living.
Before me stands one of José Treviño’s works dedicated to the universal laborer, with his rough and short body and his faceless head. He is so because laborers are invisible beings in whom no one notices the skills that make possible every person’s life. None of that which we enjoy would be possible without them, without their tools, which are their attributes, the substitute of the facelessness that is ignored by all. Thus, José Treviño frames the laborer with hammers, pliers, hoe, shovel and the fruits of corn. His homage to the worker of the fields and the cities remains clear, with his aura subtly graphed and imprinted in high contrast with the clothes and worn work shoes, and with an old worn hat. An epic rises in the work of José Treviño; that of the popular celebration of workers. Thanks to his mastered technique, it becomes moving with its symbols born from and raised in their labor. |
